[Exclusive] What exactly is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the provision of healthcare-related services that can be provided online by interface via the computer or a desktop setting. The pandemic of 2019 has proved and emphasized that there’s scope for an interaction between the patients and clinicians in a variety of settings such as at-home or remote areas. Hospitals are now open to the idea of an online video conference-call where doctors can hold appointments. These can also be used as an alternative to the in-person visits when it is not a requirement per se. Although there must be enough knowledge and security on how data and technology must work effectively. This can present itself as a favourable option in countries where healthcare facilities are scarce and unavailable. The AI systems can be a bit tricky and not a sustainable option in the long-term as research has given us mixed results! A nursing calling-unit, is staffed by nurses who can answer questions pertaining to advice on at-home treatment.

Telemedicine can also control the spread of infectious diseases, better mental health counselling, lifestyle support, elderly care, recovery after a natural disaster, and manage severe rehabilitating chronic conditions!
