How medicine and healthcare affect us in the smallest of ways leading to bigger impacts and life-changing consequences! Ultimately, changing what we call ‘healthcare.’

There’s a tinnitus cure-all?

SPI-1005 has completed its phase 3 in clinical research. It is a capsule that has been ebselen-formulated and is capable of reducing oxidative stress and inflammation of the inner ear. Ebselen is a synthetic antioxidant. In the clinical trials study, an oral administration of 400mg capsules were taken twice daily for 28 days, for the desired treatment period in participants. It has completed its phase 3 clinical trial in 2024 and the research took place in a randomised placebo study. If the drug does get approved, it could be written off as an oral drug on prescriptions for diseases such as Ménière’s disease, tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss. The drug was developed by Sound Pharmaceuticals. The US military is keen on the development of this drug’s potential as it can be used to treat their soldiers from the noise-induced hearing loss. Currently, there are no FDA-approved medical treatments for MD, nor for the treatment of hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo and dizziness.
